Ben Bolden

On Saturday, I am planning of going fly fishing in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. Therefor, I did some research on fly fishing photography in the mountains. That's when I stumbled upon a photographer named Ben Bolden. Bolden reminded me a lot of myself. He goes on annual fishing trips throughout Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming (to name a few) and takes pictures of what he sees. He reminds me of myself because we both like to fly fish in the mountains, and we both started out with Nikon cameras. However, I am new to both fly fishing and photography so my pictures probably won't turn out as well.

Dominican Republic

In class, we have been working on our trips around the world. My group has been working on a trip to the Caribbean. This made me think of some of my personal trips to this region. When I was in high school, I went on three one week mission trips to the Dominican Republic. The landscape was very different to what I was accustomed to seeing in Wyoming.
This is what the entire environment looks like. All the plants are green and luscious. I think the crosses make for an interesting focusing point (especially if the contrast was increased).

This is me eating sugar cane for the first time. My red shirt really draws the attention of the eyes. The character on the far right should be cropped out and possibly the lady in the brown shirt be cloned into the background to make for a better picture.

This is a cool picture of wild tomatoes. Once again the red really draws the focus. I think that the picture would be better if there wasn't that glare on the tomatoes and plant.

This is a neat picture of a "wild" vaca looking left in the picture. I am not sure what could be done to make this picture better apart from cropping.

Pictures of Outside during Class

These are the pictures that I captured when we were instructed to take pictures last Thursday.

I shot this one with the following settings: 200, 1/32.5, and 8.0. I chose the 8.0 so that the foreground would be in focus and the background would be blurry to put an emphasis on the pretty leaves.

I shot this picture with the following settings: 200, 1/282.9, and 4.0. I initially thought that this would be a cool picture with the sun coming through the tree. However, it didn't turn out how I wanted it to so.....

I took the same picture with these settings: 200, 1/130, and 8.0. The increase of the focal value allowed for a better sun star. This was the photo that I desired.

The Color Red

One of the rules for designing the picture space that we talked about in class was that red attracts more attention than other colors. This intrigued me when I heard it so I did some research on this matter. It turns out that there is a natural and subconscious response to this color as shown by the experiments done on this web page.

Danny Steyn

I was thinking if I were to be a professional photographer, what kind of photographer would I like to be. At first I thought of Sports Illustrated and Eastman's Hunting Journal would be cool jobs. Then I thought a little bit harder and decided that I would want to be like Danny Steyn. Steyn is a professional bikini photographer in Florida. I would like to do this because I would have set light and not have to worry about taking pictures during dusk or dawn.

This is a picture that he took of a girl in a purple bikini with brown hair.

This is a picture of a girl in a white bikini with brown hair. I like how the background in the left picture is more blurry than that of the right picture.

Olivia Hobby

Because I still haven't taken any pictures, I decided to do another photographer. This amateur photographer is Olivia Hobby. She is a family friend and I think that she did my sister's senior pictures this year.

This is a picture of my sister, Emily, in black and white. She is sitting on a chair overlooking a body of water.

This is also a picture of my sister. I don't like it as much in color because it appears that she is wearing too much makeup.

This is another picture of my sister by the log cabin that my family has been staying at while building our new house.

Greg Wise

Greg Wise is a local photographer in my hometown of Powell, Wyoming. He takes pictures of our high school sport teams and then some. When I was in high school, he captured a few photos of myself on the field. Even though I started varsity since the start of my sophomore year and my team won two state championships, my football career was filled with a lot of sorrow.

This is a photo that Greg took of me (white #66) during our state championship game that we won against Douglas on 11/11/2011. That Douglas player was lucky that I was nursing a shoulder injury or else he probably would have wound up on his backside.

This was taken during my senior year of high school. One week before the season started, I suffered a career ending knee injury where I tore my MCL, ACL, and PCL in my right knee. I spent the majority of the season on crutches feeling helpless.
